OEM wooden toys: from your drawing to a container

An OEM project is a sequence of decisions, not a single order. Here is what happens at each stage, who owns the decision, and how long it takes.

Stage 1 — tech pack (you)

The tech pack is the document the factory builds from. A drawing is only part of it. Send dimensions with tolerances, material and species, parts list, finish, age grading, destination market, packaging format, artwork status, barcode and importer details, first-order quantity and expected annual volume.

The brief that costs the most time is a photograph plus 'something like this'. Shape, size, colour and finish are the four things the factory cannot guess, and every guess is a sample round.

Stage 2 — design for manufacture (us)

We review the tech pack for construction, safety, tooling and packing. Typical changes at this stage: a joint that is stronger when drilled differently, a radius that is safer and cheaper to sand, a panel layout that fits a standard carton.

This stage takes 2–5 working days and ends with a written quotation and a sample plan.

Stage 3 — sampling (7–10 days)

We build a pre-production sample in the final material and finish. You check dimensions, colour, hardware and packaging. One round of revisions is normal; two rounds usually mean the brief was incomplete.

Sample cost depends on complexity and is credited against the bulk order.

Stage 4 — tooling and pilot (5–10 days if needed)

New shapes may need jigs, fixtures, print plates or a carton die. We confirm the tooling list and cost before starting, and run a small pilot batch to prove the process.

Stage 5 — production, QC and shipping (25–30 days)

Production runs with in-line checks and a final inspection against the approved sample and the AQL level agreed in the order. We handle FOB Ningbo or Shanghai, and can work with your forwarder or ours.

Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, and test reports where required.

Frequently asked

Do you work from a tech pack?

Yes. Send a tech pack or a drawing with dimensions; we will review it for manufacture and quote within 24 hours.

Who owns the tooling?

Tooling paid for by the customer belongs to the customer; we store it and use it only for your orders.

Can you handle the export documents?

Yes. We ship FOB Ningbo or Shanghai and provide the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and test reports where required.

How many sample rounds are normal?

One. A second round usually means the brief changed or a dimension was not specified.
